This piece was painted in 1934 by Issei artist Kenjiro Nomura. Nomura was well known in the Seattle art scene for his rural and urban landscapes. One of Nomura’s goals as an artist was to reconcile the Japanese influences on his paintings with the Western tradition he worked in.
