How to use this site:
This project sprung out of my desire to create something that would allow people with dementia to engage with art at their own pace from the comfort of their homes. While a number of art museums have amazing programs for people with dementia, many of these require in-person visits. This limits their accessibility, since as the disease progresses, those affected may feel less comfortable going into public spaces.
The format utilized here is based heavily off of the Reflections Program at the Nasher Museum. As I was planning this project, I began thinking about my own aging family members. This inspired me to create a program that is specifically catered to Seattleās Japanese and Japanese American community. The combination of the artwork, the discussion prompts, and the supplemental materials are designed to encourage reflection, reminiscence, and conversation about Japanese American culture.
